Lauren Marie is a space I created to share my passions and work. No matter the passion or project, I endeavor to provide working women of color with tools and assets, tips and tricks, camaraderie, and, of course, a bit of humor.

A Little Bit About Me

I’m the proud and overly indulgent mother of an adorable 9-year-old girl. I’m the eldest daughter, wise sister, funny friend, easygoing Christian, collaborative advancement director, and brand designer. I’m also a big fiction reader, reality TV viewer, old musicals fan, folk music lover, indoor cycler, and Twitter addict.

And this. This all started with a blog. See, I’m the writer behind Grab Your Light - a blog I started in 2017, and the author behind “Shine Through” - a book I wrote and published in 2024, sharing my journey through divorce and co-parenting. My purpose was to use my knack for writing to get through a trying experience with honesty and intention while helping others do the same.

Then. Like everyone else, all over the world, the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic came with forced idle time and reignited my creativity. I started to design printables. And designing printables turned into designing a website to sell the printables. And designing one website turned into designing multiple websites. And designing websites turned into creating content for those websites and their social media channels.

So here I am. I endeavor to do life, motherhood, and my work with authenticity, intention, and impact, and I’m hoping Black women, single women, entrepreneurial women, mamas, and of course future collaborators, clients, and customers will join me.

And Even More About the Design Co

At my core, I’m a creator. Always have been. I vividly recall saving my allowance as a child to purchase sketchbook after sketchbook. That then turned to purchasing Vogue magazines (I have a very impressive collection lol) and thinking I wanted to be a fashion designer. Growing up as a little Black girl, the only professions advertised for creators were music, dance, fashion, and painting. And none of those were really part of the American dream. They didn’t offer guarantees or consistency in success. So they weren’t encouraged.

Instead, I graduated from high school as Valedictorian. Went on to Stanford University, on a full scholarship, and majored in Political Science. Then, as if that wasn’t enough schooling, earned a Juris Doctor degree from Southwestern Law School. I took the bar exam several times, hating every moment of it, and not yet passing. And after the fourth time, I realized I was okay with that.

I took the long and winding way, but it appears I’ve just realized my creativity has always flowed. Enter the Lauren Marie Design Co. Here at the Design Co, you can find:

Web Design services; and
Details of my branding work in education (which doesn’t seem like creativity, but just wait till you see what I do 😊).
