Book Review: The Paradise Problem by Christina Lauren
When I say I loved this book, I mean I savored every moment like the perfect vacation beverage—smooth, satisfying, and a little indulgent. Christina Lauren’s The Paradise Problem is a masterclass in romantic comedy that’s equal parts heartfelt, hilarious, and gloriously escapist.
Fake Marriage with a Side of Billionaire Family Baggage
The story follows Anna and Liam who are former college acquaintances with a secret: they’re fake-married for housing and inheritance purposes. What starts as a paperwork formality becomes complicated when Liam's ultra-wealthy (and ultra-controlling) family calls him home for his sister’s wedding... and expects to meet his wife.
Cue the tropical estate, the luxe itinerary, the couture gowns, and the perfectly placed emotional landmines.
But this isn’t a “she doesn’t fit into his world” trope, as you’d expect with this setup. Christina Lauren flips the script. Instead of focusing on surface-level differences, the story dives into themes of autonomy, family pressure, and emotional safety, and all without losing the fun.
Anna & Liam: Sunshine Meets Emotional Depth
Anna is radiant, funny, grounded, and full of warmth. Liam is emotionally intelligent, mature, and refreshingly present. Together, they have a chemistry that feels lived-in, real, and earned, not forced. Their banter sparkles, but so does their vulnerability. I went in expecting a breezy romance and got something deeper: two people learning to trust themselves as much as they trust each other.
A Love Story You Can Pack in Your Carry-On
I listened to this audiobook over ten days and genuinely didn’t want it to end. Between the witty dialogue, luxurious setting, and perfectly paced plot, The Paradise Problem is everything I want in a modern romance. The Stanford mentions didn’t hurt either. 😉
This is Christina Lauren at their best. It’s all smart, sexy, emotionally rich storytelling with just enough glam to let you escape into another world.
My Rating: ✩✩✩✩✩
I highly recommend it for fans of the fake marriage trope, sunshine x uptight dynamics, or anyone who wants a love story that’s grown, grounded, and genuinely swoon-worthy.
